Hot & Sour Tofu Slices

This is another appetizing dish from Wendy's blog Table For 2 or more ,  that I have bookmarked. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to test it out and gosh , it was really really good.  The combination of the sauce ingredients makes this dish explosive.  The hot tangy and almost pickled like onions flavor sauce coated the tofu slices, making the combined taste and flavor explosive.  The hot chillies gave it the oomph needed for this tangy dish.   Fantastic ! and I am glad I remembered to bookmark it :)  Read on  to check out the recipe.

This is truly delicious....I love the fact that the whole combinations blend well for the lightly fried tofu. Running short of coriander leaves, I used spring onions instead and it tasted just as good.

I used the seaweed tofu instead of the 2"X2"X1" soft tofu from Jusco.
Sliced them all into 1/4 inch thick.  Simple, easy and delicious !

this tangy dressing is yummy good, while preparing
the dressing, I was drooling the whole time , lucky none of the
drools went into the dressing :p

leave the dressing ingredients
to caress one other and the lemon juice to
infused into the onions and chillies....the hot
chillies adds ommph to the tofu...yummy!

Hot & Sour Tofu Slices  - adapted from Wendy's Table For 2 or more

6 pieces of tofu * ( I used seaweed tofu- you can get from Jusco)
40 ml/2 chinese soup soons of lemon juice or lime juice
1/2 tsp salt
1 heaped tbsp sugar
1 tbsp finely chopped shallots
1/2 tbsp finely chopped garlic
2-3 bird's eye chilli, finely sliced
1 tbsp chopped coriander * I used spring onions

Preparation

1. Slice each block of tofu into 6 slices
2. Heat a non stick pan and put some oil in.  Fry tofu slices ( in a few batches) until golden. Dish up and drain on paper towels.
3. Prepare dressing. Combine everything else ( except coriander) and stir until the sugar dissolves. Taste. Very very slightly oversalted, hot , sour well pronounced and well balanced with the sugar.
4. Toss tofu slies with dressing just before serving and sprinkle chopped coriander ( spring onions if using ) on.

Enjoy & have a great weekend !
