Cinnamon-Crunch Chicken - French Fridays With Dorie

When I ran through the recipe for this week FFWD, I was quite hesitant about cooking this dish for I was thinking of skipping meat and eat just salad for dinner . But the urge to try out this very French home cooking dish was too great to give it a skip :)  The ingredients involved looks stylish and taste haute. I am quite a glutton when it comes to food :p  And most important, I can compare notes with the other Doristas...cooking the same dish and sharing notes is the best thing that could happens to food bloggers :)  I am full of excitement when Friday comes.......

This is my first time cooking chicken with cookies...and cinnamon flavored cookies !  Dorie asked for Speculoos - are thin , buttery cinnamon and spice cookies that will melt in the mouth like shortbread.  I can't get Speculoos in my hometown so I substituted it with digestive cookies, add a dash of cinnamon to it and tada .. I have my own cinnamon cookies for the chicken. Dorie's friend Alice came up with this brilliant recipe and I have to agree it is rather unusual and delicious !

The 3 most important ingredients, chicken breasts, creme fraiche and speculoos  and it takes only 10 minutes to prepare !!! I made just enough for two person. Not sure whether Wild Boar will like cream and cookies in his chicken , so I am actually testing out and see whether it will be a hit with him . It was just okay with us, though we like the crunch but it taste a bit sweetish  ( maybe I used the wrong type of cookies )  Anyway, I am glad to try it out...something different for a change.

dry the chicken strips with paper towel
season with salt and pepper,
mix the creme fraiche with the cookies powder /crumbs

saute the chicken strips with butter or olive oil
till cooked through, add in the cookies/creme mixture
to the cooked chicken and stirring till the
chicken strips are coated and completely cooked

it has a slight crunch , packed with flavor of
cinnamon cookies , tender and juicy

This dish to be eaten as soon as it is ready :)

  4. I like how you were able to get a bit of a coating on your chicken. Mine totally melted into the creme fraiche and made a sauce.

  7. I think I'll add more cookie next time. We liked the sweet spices but yours is really pretty, not just because of your great salad, but also because you have more "cookie" on the chicken. Nice to see what you have done. And...I really like that salad...good idea for dinner tonight.

  9. You were able to get such a good coating on yours, Elin! Mine had specks of cookies, but it was very good. Great substitution for the cinnamon sugar spice.

  12. Your chicken looks delicious. And more like fried chicken than the other posts I've seen. This is one of those times when I really wish that Dorie had a picture of this recipe in her book, it's always nice to have a visual goal to aim for. Happy to hear that you enjoyed it, I'm looking forward to giving it a try myself.

  15. yours doesnt look as creamy as mine did! ... but still delicious, like fried chicken! :) I make basmati rice that soaked up the extra sauce on the plate from the creme fraiche-speculoo combo!

  18. I wonder if this would work with Ginger Nut biscuits, I'd never thought of using biscuits in baking savoury dishes before. But it sounds yum!

  19. Yours looks more like how I imagined when I saw the title of the recipe. Mine was not sweet at all, so I bet it was your cookie substitution...there were just subtle undertones of a mystery flavor...not cinnamony at all. Have a great Sunday~
