Reunion Feast For The Piggies
















I had been huffing and puffing in the kitchen the whole of the Chinese New Year Eve , cooking these reunion dishes for the Piggies clan.  Sorry for not being able to post this up earlier , I was too tired and my brain just refuse to function the normal way....data hanged and today the data center has decided not to malfunction thus this post showing you what I cooked for our  reunion dinner. A five course dinner plus one dessert....mmmmm I would say homecooked food taste much better coz it was cooked with so much love and laced with so much passion in these traditional dishes.

Read on to see what each dish signifies.......




















Gold Fin Pomfret , steamed in sizzled garlic oil & soy sauce

Fish signifies ' nian nian yu yue ' in chinese , it means every year there is surplus of everything :)


















Prawns cooked dried curry style 

Prawns signifies   ' he hee ha ha'  in chinese , it means laughter all the year through :)


















Braised Mushrooms With Dried Oysters & Sea Cucumber
and Black Moss

This dish signifies prosperity  - for the chinese this is usually served for CNY, with lots of black moss ( Fatt Choy ) 


















Homemade Silky Egg Tofu , cooked with ear fungus, and 
several types of  canned mushrooms and some black moss,
this is my Josh's favourite !  This has no significance...just an extra
for my boy :)


















Fried Jicama/Yambean With Shredded Cuttlefish  - this signifies longevity if I am not mistaken :) Please correct me if I am wrong.  I am a yellow banana...excuse me :P

  9. lololol! Yellow banana! I thought I was one of those (being UK born chinese)!!!

    Ah, longevity is supposed to be represented by eating noodles. & remember not to cut your noodles!

    Ah, if you eat dried oysters they are called "ho-see" which sounds like "good market, as in good business. & "faat-choi" is to prosper. So I suppose it's have good business and prosper! (I don't like the taste of dried oysters though!)

  11. Esther....yesss...cooked rice and some of each of the dishes except the fish :)) Wild Boar is particular about the chinese tradition :p


    Biren....Gong Xi Fa Cai to you too...haha these are dishes I cooked every year becoz of its symbolism :))

  12. At first I thought it was rather peculiar that you made a carrot cake for dessert for a CNY celebration until I read your reasons behind it and it cracked me up too. LOL. In fact I made one immediately last nite and loved it. Thanks for sharing.
