Stir-Fry Broccoli With ' Abalone Mushrooms '

For the last few weeks, our department had been organizing the Raya parties for their staffs. This is the norm in our department for each section to invite colleagues from different sections to attend their raya parties. The local malay raya food will be served like the lemang ( glutinous rice cooked in bamboo ) , chicken & beef satay ( bbq chicken & chicken in skewer ), Laksa , Roti Jala ( Net Bread - a kind of crepe/pancake eaten together with curry ) , Nasi Impit ( malay compact rice cake ) and lots of local malay delicacies . After this sinful  indulgence , my weight would have increased by at least a kilogramme :(

Eating simple , especially more veggies and fish dishes in my meal will be great for me after all those heavy stuff I had taken . Thus, this simple stir- fry broccoli ( my Piggies called this ' little green trees ' when they were young ) with ' abalone mushroom ' was a great comfort food for me :)

To make this stir fry broccoli taste better, I added  'abalone mushroom ' and make a tasty thickening for the dish. Most chinese likes to add cooking wine to their stir fries and I am one of them :) and garlic is  a must have item in my stir fries. Just this two magic ingredients will be enough to bring out a delicious stir fry broccoli !  Being a die hard fan of mushrooms....needless to say ' abalone mushroom ' was not left out in this preparation. I chose this mushroom for its crunchy and chewy texture....a delight for a light meal. I can chomp chomp the whole dish all by myself :p

you can add in carrots and sweet peas
for extra nutrients :)

love the shrooms ........

a light and delicious stir fry broccoli dish...
the ' abalone mushroom ' and broccoli blends well
both have a crunchy texture....
simple yet tasty !

Stir-Fry Broccoli With 'Abalone Mushroom '

Ingredients :

1 head of broccoli - cut into florets , wash and drain
1 can of ' abalone mushroom ' - cut into slices
3 pips of garlic -chopped
1.5 tbsp olive oil

thickening gravy: ( mix ingredients ( A ) together till well blended )
(A)
1 tbsp of chinses cooking wine
1 tsp of corn flour
4 tbsp of water
1 tbsp of oyster sauce
a dash of white pepper

Method:

Heat a non-stick wok with olive oil , saute garlic till fragrant, add in the abalone mushrooms and broccoli and stir fry till the broccoli and mushroom are cooked. Add in the thickening gravy and dish up when the gravy thickens.

*When serving , arrange the broccoli in a bowl with the stems facing up. Turn over on a serving dish. Then arrange the slices of 'abalone mushrooms "  on the surface of the  broccoli. Pour the gravy over the broccoli and 'abalone mushroom '.  If using carrots, arrange the carrots around the broccoli for a nicer presentation :)

Enjoy and TGIF  !

  20. Thanks for the recipe!!! Love it. Fresh or frozen local abalone is cheaper but will never give the same taste, flavor and texture as canned abalone. I love the flavor and taste of canned abalone and one day I want to eat abalone like 'abalone kings' do: braised in sauce and served whole, like a steak, washed down with a good white wine. Cut with a knife and fork of course. Meantime, it's still cheaper to slice abalone thinly and share with the family. I love this dish. It's such a special treat
